Move Up Club History

Move Up Cycling Club History

Move Up Cycling Club didn’t start as a traditional cycling club.

It began as a small development program focused on helping road racers improve, compete, and move up through the sport.

Early Development (2016)

In 2016, Move Up Endurance Coaching launched the Move Up Development Team. The goal was to create a clear pathway for aspiring road racers to progress through structured coaching and mentorship.

This pathway worked alongside the Olathe Subaru Cycling Team, a Category 1 road squad competing at a high level in regional and national events.

Expanding Across Disciplines (2017)

As cycling continued to grow beyond the road, Move Up expanded with it.

In 2017, the Move Up Off-Road Team was formed to support athletes competing in gravel, mountain bike, and cyclocross events. This marked the beginning of a broader, multi-discipline approach.

The Club is Formed (2020)

By 2020, Move Up had grown into three distinct teams:

  • Move Up Off-Road Team
  • Olathe Subaru Cycling Team
  • Move Up Development Team

To create a more accessible entry point and unify riders across disciplines, the Move Up Cycling Club was introduced.

At this stage, the club acted as the foundation for developing riders, while the existing teams continued to operate within their respective disciplines.

Road Program Transition (2021–2023)

In 2021, the road program transitioned under the Move Up name and became the Move Up Road Squad.

For the next several years, the club and the road squad existed side by side. The club served as the broader community and development pipeline, while the road squad represented the top-end competitive group.

One Unified Club (2024–Present)

At the beginning of 2024, everything was fully brought together under one structure.

Today, everything operates collectively as Move Up Cycling Club, with a clear pathway from entry-level riders to high-level competition within a single program.

Where We Are Today

Move Up Cycling Club is a race-focused community built around progression, structure, and shared experience.

The club includes roughly 130 members, including 50–60 juniors, and supports athletes across road, gravel, mountain bike, and cyclocross racing.

Structured 8-week programs throughout the year provide coaching, skill development, and opportunities to compete locally:

  • Road (Spring)
  • Mountain Bike (Summer)
  • Cyclocross (Fall)

The club also plays an active role in the local cycling scene through events like the Muleskinner Gravel Classic and a growing cyclocross series.

Team Structure and Jerseys

Jerseys are a way to recognize roles, progression, and responsibility within the club.

Rose Jersey – Club Team
The starting point for all members. Represents the broader Move Up community across all disciplines.

Teal Jersey – Performance Team
Represents the highest competitive level within the club. Teal riders are not only strong racers, but also leaders, mentors, and role models. This level reflects both performance and commitment to the team.

Yellow Jersey – Coaches and Mentors
Worn by coaches and volunteers who support athlete development, particularly within the junior program. This group plays a key role in building the next generation of riders.

Moving Forward

The structure has evolved over time, but the focus has remained consistent.

Build a program that gives people a reason to show up, improve, and stay connected to the sport through training and racing.
